European Man-for-Man Internet Sex Survey

Sigma Research has just launched EMIS - the European Gay and Bisexual Men's Sex Survey which incorporates the UKs Gay Men's Sex Survey also known as Vital Statistics. The survey is available until August 31st 2010.

With a target sample of at least 60,000 gay men and bisexual men EMIS will be the largest survey of this population ever undertaken anywhere in the world. Researchers and gay and HIV organisations from 31 European countries are working together to ensure EMIS is a success. In the UK, EMIS is part-funded by the Terrence Higgins Trust on behalf of CHAPS, the national HIV prevention programme funded by the English Department of Health.

The questionnaire is about sex, health and relationships. It is anonymous, safe and relatively short (it takes about 15-25 minutes to complete). Taking part might mean men finding out something new and the information they provide will help health promoters to better meet the needs of gay men and bisexual men. A high response rate will also help us send a signal to governments that HIV and sexual health are still very important.

Drug and Alcohol Use in the LGBT Community

Each year the Sheffield Drug and Alcohol Action Team puts together a report documenting drug and alcohol addiction and treatment outcomes in Sheffield.

However, they currently have very little information and evidence about drug taking and alcohol abuse within the LGBT community.

The Sheffield Drug and Alcohol Action Team would like to hear from you - you can help them to fill this gap in information by completing their on-line questionnaire at http://bit.ly/aCoBFX

The survey will only take a few minutes and all responses are confidential.

For more information, please contact the Sheffield Drug and Alcohol Action Team on 0114 273 6851.

Men Only Testing - Get the Full M.O.T.

The sexual health drop in clinic run by Sheffield Contraception and Sexual Health Service, is open for gay and bisexual men, men who have sex with men and men exploring their sexuality with other men to have tests and vaccinations and to get advice.

The drop in clinic provides a safe and confidential space where men can be tested for sexually transmitted infections and get Hepatitis B vaccinations.

Trained nurses and health promotion staff will be available to offer men advice and information around their sexual health. The clinic will also offer free condoms and lube to all clients.

The clinic opens every Wednesday between 4pm and 6.30pm and can be accessed by men of all ages and backgrounds.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) can affect all men, but are more common amongst those who have had lots of different sexual partners and younger men. Often there are no signs of symptoms of an STI, therefore testing for infections on a regular basis is recommended. The tests involve collecting a blood and urine sample and taking a throat and rectal swab, the latter will be done by the men themselves in private. This will test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, HIV and Hepatitis B, with the results returned the following week.

Men can also access the drop in service at Central Health Clinic during normal opening hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am to 11.30am and 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
